Maker Monday – Kreativ Mindz

Hello hello and welcome to another round of Maker Monday!!! This week I’m excited to introduce you to Aly of Kreativ Mindz. I’m so grateful to have met Aly and gotten to know her over the past couple of years – she and her bestie Lizz (from Lily in Flux) are just about the cutest besties this side of the Mississippi and are just SO much fun to hang out with. And they, of course, both make awesome stuff! At Gather, we carry Aly’s super-popular head-wraps and infinity scarves made out of the softest and most modern fabric – there’s one to match every outfit! We also carry her line of sunburst asymmetrical skirts and maxi skirts for all sizes! We always have fun dressing our mannequins with Aly’s wares! Without further ado – I give you Aly!

  1. Who are you? What is your business?

My name is Aly and I am the owner/operator/creator of KreativeMindz. Some say I’m a magical unicorn.

  2. Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH and although I have traveled and lived elsewhere, home always called me back.  Now we own a little chunk of land about 30 miles east of Cincinnati. It’s our little hillbilly haven.

  3. How long have you been making?

I was probably conjuring up ideas in the womb, but as soon as I was physically able to create, I did.  I started designing and making my own clothing and accessories as a teenager to express my style and individuality. By 2007 my designs had evolved into a cohesive collection and KreativeMindz was officially born. unnamed (3).jpg

  4. What is your most favorite handmade item that you own?

Hmmmm…that’s a hard one.  I own LOTS of handmade goodness that I LOVE. But probably one of my favorite pieces is a crazy face coffee cup my BFF gifted me. ❤

  5. Do you have a pie in the sky dream for your business? What are your ultimate goals with Kreative Mindz?

Eventually, I would like to be designing, growing and milling all the fabrics that are used in my designs. How the fibers are grown and milled and the impact that has on our beautiful earth is something that is very important to me, not to mention all of the amazing people I am certain I would meet and work with!  Pie in the sky dream, check!

  6. Where do your draw your artistic inspiration from?

Nature, the flow of it, and the beauty that surrounds us daily is where a lot of my inspiration comes from. The organic textures of every day life. The feel and give of the fibers as I cut and manipulate them … comfort with style. Music inspires me, people inspire me, my kids inspire me.

  7. People like to hear . . . something different about our artists – what sets them apart from the rest. Can you tell us a story about yourself that might do that?

I love music and I love to dance.  You will often find me having dance parties in my studio space while I create.  Music and dancing make life more fun and soothe my soul. Also, I’m hilarious and love to make people smile and laugh. It is a big part of ME.

To finish off this little introduction, I leave you with Aly’s favorite quote:

When we engage in what we are naturally suited to do, our work takes on the quality of play and it is play that stimulates creativity.
